What is Thorncliffe Place?
It is an 81 suite low rise residential building opened in 1989.
The building has air conditioning and an elevator. It also has many
safety features including heat detectors, smoke alarms and a fire
sprinkler system. Thorncliffe Place is a residence for seniors who
prefer not to live alone and/or maintain a private home. All our
suites are private rooms with a private bathroom. More than one
third of the building is common area for residents to mix and mingle.
There are sitting rooms, lounges, activity rooms and our formal
dining room. Residents are free of the responsibilities related
to housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation. Additionally we
provide medical supervision and assistance with activities of daily
living.
Must I sign a lease?
Our lease is intended to clearly outline the accommodation and services.
Our longest lease agreement can be terminated on 30 days notice.
If you have a concern you can deal directly with the owners who
personally manage the residence.
What is supervision of medications?
We have on staff Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses
who are available to answer questions as well as assist and monitor
the well being of our residents. Residents may continue to use their
own physician. However, most find it more convenient to use our
House Physician who makes “house calls.” Every suite
is equipped with an intercom and emergency cord to allow our caring
staff to be available on a moments notice, 24 hours a day.
What if I need more care?
If more care is necessary we will consult with you and/or your family.
Our health care professionals will advise you of available options
and services. We will assist you in making the necessary arrangements
to receive appropriate care and accommodation.
May I have guests?
We want you and your guests to feel comfortable in your new home.
Guests are welcome at afternoon tea. We have extra tables in the
dining room for residents who may be entertaining.
May I bring my own furniture?
Thorncliffe Place does provide furniture. However, most residents
bring some furniture to make our residence their home.
How private is my accommodation?
Your suite is your home. Your privacy is respected by the staff
that knocks before they enter (unless there is an emergency). Your
mail is put directly into an apartment style mailbox for which you
retain the key.
What activities are available?
We have an activity coordinator who organizes excursions, special
events, hobbies and cards. Residents decide for themselves what
they will participate in. The activity coordinator is a facilitator
to help residents with interests they may have.
What is ORCA?
The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) is a voluntary,
self-regulating organization of retirement home owners and operators
who provide personal care and accommodation for more than 17,000
residents in Ontario. ORCA’s members subscribe to a Commitment
to Residents and a Code of Ethics which are posted in our lobby.
Membership in ORCA is contingent upon meeting and maintaining comprehensive
association standards. Thorncliffe Place Retirement Home has been
a member of the Ontario Residential Care Association since 1988.
